"It was the veranda that stole my heart at first sight!"
With a radiant smile, the woman shared her delight. She and her childhood friend had come to visit in late November.
The crisp autumn air of Goto, with its harmonious blend of bright sunshine and a cool breeze, is incredibly pleasant. Some might think there's not much to do here compared to summer, especially since swimming in the sea or river is no longer an option.
However, these two ladies enjoyed cycling in Kami-Goto, experienced the warmth of the people in Naru Island, and immersed themselves in the simple yet magnificent nature and the local way of life.
Another great pleasure of spending time in Goto during this comfortable season is this.

Goto is a fishing paradise where you can catch something year-round, but just like anywhere else, the fish get fattier and packed with flavor as we head into autumn and winter. When friends who are fishing fanatics or local islanders bring me some of their catch, the late-night fish prep sessions begin!
On one such occasion, a group of female travelers happened to be staying with me. They joined a BBQ with other guests they'd just met that day, and together they raved about the fresh sashimi alongside our Goto beef BBQ.

The next morning, drawn by the warm sunshine, they opened the window and enjoyed a leisurely engawa (Japanese veranda) time, feet resting on a log, sipping hot water. It was especially memorable because they added a squeeze of a mysterious citrus fruit, given by a local islander, to their hot water.

To accept the events that occur in each season and opportunity, without resisting the transitions of the seasons and the providence of nature. Perhaps, a life where we savor the blessings of that time and place, rather than foods available year-round, is the most beautiful life of all.
